Depending on the base (1-4) you can expect several frigates and a couple cruisers, to many frigates and many cruises with some battlecruisers. Essentially any HAC will do, Hictors are nice for this as well, and any 2nd tier BC should do as well.

Also, never volley against npc's. Wastes ammo and allows their defenses (repping) work better. Stagger you missiles and you will see a much better result. G15 keyboard is great for this.
